FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

General questions

We have set up this online shop to simplify and speed up the ordering process. You can now select and order your desired products as you are used to from other online shops. Ordering by email is not possible.

We, TERRANGER Products GmbH, are the developers and manufacturers of the products. We do not offer installation of the products in customer vehicles. For installation, please contact one of our installation partners or ask the workshop of your choice whether they will carry out the installation.

Please ask one of our assembly partners about converting your vehicle. The local assembly partner is TERRANGER Service GmbH. You can find the contact details at www.terranger-service.de. You can find other assembly partners in the list under "support" and on the map.

For each product, you will find detailed installation instructions for download on the details page. Installation is explained there step by step. However, as these are vehicle parts, installation may only be carried out by trained specialists.

In order to be able to respond better to your wishes and the changing requirements of the market, the founders of TERRANGER GmbH have decided to separate the business areas [product development and sales] and [vehicle conversion] from January 2023 and to operate two independent companies.

We, TERRANGER Products, focus on product development and the sales of our products via this webshop.

TERRANGER Service takes over the conversion business and from now on concentrates on upgrading your van to an off-road travel vehicle.

All TERRANGER products are developed by us and manufactured in small series by selected specialist companies in the region. We then test and complete the products in-house.

Questions about rear carriers and gas springs

The "light" rear carrier can transport a holding module and a maximum of two bicycles. With a module installed (e.g. aluminum box or spare wheel), the rear carrier can no longer be used as a bicycle carrier or can only be used to a limited extent because the holding arms for securing the bicycle collide with the spare wheel. If you have not installed a spare wheel, the carrier can still be used as a bicycle carrier.

The "modular" rear carrier is designed for up to three holding modules at the same time and a maximum of four bicycles. The maximum load including the holding modules is 50 kg.

The modified pivot points of our mounting sets change the leverage ratios so that the load on the tailgate hinges is reduced. We limit the maximum extension force of our gas spring to 1500 Newtons so that the load on the hinges is not higher than in the original condition with the strongest gas springs available from VW.

Additional headlights

High beam headlights: A maximum of four high beam headlights are permitted. Every motor vehicle is already equipped with two high beam headlights as standard. This means that two additional high beam headlights may be operated on the vehicle. Possible installation locations are on the front of the vehicle or on the roof of the vehicle. The reference number of the high beam headlight provides information about the maximum lighting intensity of the system. The reference number of the headlights can be seen on the cover glass or on the housing. The most common values are 12.5, 17.5 and 37.5. Their total must not exceed 100 of all the high beam headlights that can be switched on at the same time.

Fog lights: In addition, two fog lights are permitted per vehicle. They must be installed in pairs and no higher than the dipped beam headlights (but at least 250 millimetres above the road surface).

The reference number of the headlights is stamped on the cover glass or on the housing. The most common values are 12.5, 17.5 and 37.5.

The headlight sets for the front grills include ready-made cable sets with connections, fuses, 12V relays and switches. Four connections are required to make the electrical connection:

  • +12V (battery): The power supply is connected to the starter battery via a ring cable lug. The supply line (red) is protected against overload by a fuse
  • Ground: The ground line (black) is connected to a suitable ground point via a ring cable lug.
  • Signal:
    • Vehicles with halogen or xenon headlights*: The control voltage for switching the relay is taken from the power supply of the high beam headlights for halogen and xenon headlights. To do this, the cable is cut open and connected to the control line (purple) with a solder connector. The solder connector is included in the scope of delivery.
    • Vehicles with LED headlights: If a 12V high beam signal cannot be taken, the signal must be taken from the CAN bus. You will also need a CAN bus interface for this.
  • Headlights: The headlights themselves are fully wired and are connected to the cable set using waterproof connectors.

The installation should be carried out by a workshop with specialist knowledge of vehicle electrics.

* With the VW T5 and T6, the 12V control voltage of the high beam can always be removed, even if the vehicle has xenon headlights. With the T6.1, this is only possible for vehicles with halogen headlights. The CAN bus interface must be used for vehicles with LED headlights.
